BLURB: Since the death of his submissive lover two years ago, Leo hasn’t been living—merely existing. He focuses on making Collars & Cuffs, a BDSM club in Manchester’s gay village, successful. That changes the night he and his business partner have their weekly meeting at Severinos. Leo can’t keep his eyes off the new server. The shy man seems determined to avoid Leo’s gaze, but that’s like a red rag to a bull. Leo loves a challenge.
Alex Daniels works at Severinos to scrape together the money to move out on his own. He struggles with coming out, but he’s drawn to Leo, the gorgeous guy with the icy-blue eyes who’s been eating in his area nearly every night.
Leo won’t let Alex’s hesitance get in the way. He even keeps him away from the club so as not to scare him. And as for telling Alex that Leo is a Dom? Not a good idea. One date becomes two, but date two leads to Leo’s bedroom… and Alex discovers things about himself he never realized—and never wanted anyone to see.
This is the first book in the brilliant “Collars and Cuffs” series. This book is predominantly about Leo Hart who is joint owner of the BDSM club Collars and Cuffs. He lost his sub / partner in a car accident about 2 years before this books starts and he has been coasting ever since. Out for dinner with his business partner Thomas he meets Alex who is working as a waiter. Alex is secure in the knowledge he is gay but he has never had a boyfriend and is not out to his family. The thing I love about this book is that Leo a long time Dom does not see Alex and instantly imagine him as a submissive. He takes Alex out, buys him dinner, spends time with him on real dates and actually avoids telling him what he does for a living. Until matters are taking out of his hands. The story also covers what happens to Alex when he comes out to his family and his work colleagues and the differing reactions from people. This is a fantastic introduction in the world, we readers learn about BDSM as Alex does, this includes spanking and caning. It may seem odd that I’m telling you this but each book in the series has a different approach showing what a wide and varied world BDSM actually is. We also meet lots of characters who appear in future books although you can read them out of order.
When I read this book, despite the whips and chains, I was left with and overwhelming feeling of love and tenderness, and a desperate urge to get on to the next in the series.
