BLURB: With his college graduation gown expertly pitched into the trash, Justin Akron is ready for the road trip he planned with his best friend Landry— and ready for one last summer of escape from his mother’s controlling grip. Climbing into the Winnebago his father left him, they set out across America in search of the sites his father had captured through the lens of his Nikon.
As an aspiring photographer, Justin can think of no better way to honor his father’s memory than to scatter his ashes at the sites he held sacred. And there’s no one Justin would rather share the experience with more than Landry.
But Justin knows he can’t escape forever. Eventually he’ll have to return home and join his mother’s Senate campaign. Nor can he escape the truth of who he is, and the fact that he’s in love with his out-and-proud travel companion.
Admitting what he wants could hurt his mother’s conservative political career. But with every click of his shutter and every sprinkle of ash, Justin can’t resist Landry’s pull. And when the truth comes into focus, neither is prepared for the secrets the other is hiding.
I discovered this book through a friend’s recommendation. Books for me are a personal thing and I’m not swayed by ratings, however, I’m glad I took their advice on this one, it was wonderful.
It’s a very emotional story. Justin and Landry are the best of friends. Unfortunately, Justin’s beloved father dies and the two of them decide to go on a trip and lay his father’s ashes in some of his favourite places, taking “Sally” his fathers’ RV. The trip turns out even more than what they expected. Whilst away, Landry starts a Blog to share with their friends – it’s sweet and very funny!
Landry is gay, whereas, due to his conservative mother, Justin is still in the closet. He loves Landry but feels he cannot tell him. However, on the trip, he can no longer hide or deny his feelings. Landry is shocked and angry – he has loved Justin for what seems like forever and wouldn’t act on it because he thought he was…straight!
When the fighting is over, that leaves the sex….and it’s hot! but for them, it’s just not about the sex, they are soul mates and belong together. Justin is going to have to fight for their future.
Through Justin’s memories, we get to feel the love between father and son – he wasn’t perfect but he loved his son. He taught him about “focus” and Justin realises that it was now time to focus on Landry – he is his everything!
This wasn’t an easy journey which was good for me, I don’t like easy. I loved Landry, his character was just beautiful, whereas Justin was a bit harder to understand, but I got and understood his fear.
At the end of the book, you realise that love is enough and the only thing you need.
So, what else can I tell you? Read it! That’s what. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
