This is a first for us here at “Three books over the rainbow”, we have two reviewers reviewing certain books of this amazing series by AE Via!
“She can’t put it down” says – AE Via is a new author for me and I wanted to see what all the fuss was about? Are these books as good as my colleague raved about? Was the sex scenes so hot that I was advised to keep my kindle in the freezer so it wasn’t too hot to handle? And the simple answer is – Yes! Yes! and Yes! I ventured on a reading journey, well a marathon really, as these books are really long, I read books 1, 2 and 3 back-to-back, (I think I was brain-washed by some Via cult, so be warned), I couldn’t get enough, my commitment/addiction so strong. I’m going to give my thoughts on the books individually.

BLURB: Detective Cashel ‘Cash’ Godfrey is big, tattooed and angry so people typically keep their distance. He’s fresh out of the police academy, however, no one is looking to partner with the six foot four beast with a huge chip on his shoulder and an inability to trust. When Cash scans the orientation room he wasn’t expecting to find sexy hazel eyes locked onto him. Eyes of the handsome Detective Leonidis ‘Leo’ Day.
Leo is charming, witty, hilariously sarcastic and the only one that can make Cash smile. He’s proud, out and one bad-ass detective.
Together Cash and Leo become the most revered and successful narcotics detectives Atlanta’s ever seen. Able to communicate and understand each other, without even having to voice it, they quickly climb up the promotional ranks.
When Cash saves Leo’s life in a raid that turns deadly, Leo begins to see something in the big man that no one else does…something special. But Leo fears he’ll never break through the impenetrable wall that protects Cash’s heart.
Nothing Special takes the reader through various emotions throughout the richly fulfilling plot that’s full of erotic gay romance, heartache, passion, trials and tribulations, police action scenes, and an intriguing twist that comes to an amazing ending that’s impossible to see coming.
Firstly, I should say that the author got the wrong name for the book – it should read “Something Special”, because it was. We have very powerful MC’s, a very intriguing storyline and some of the best sex scenes that I have read. The author built the foundations securely, guaranteeing the successful build for the following books in this series.
God and Day have been partners for 4 years. God is 100% Alpha male – he’s big and scary, whereas Day is the total opposite – he’s open, friendly and has an amazing talent of delivering sarcastic one-liners that would be the envy of anyone. They are so in-tune with each other, that just one look and they know what the other is thinking – the perfect partnership. After 4 years together, both cannot deny their feelings for each other and so this epic journey begins. It’s tough, rough and raw in places but also sweet and gentle when God shows his protectiveness towards Day.
The author hit every button for me. Great start to the series.
This is a beautiful series, full of action, but above all, it’s full of tender moments as well. There is romance, heartache, passion, trials and tribulations.
What’s better than two good rough, manly, lethal cops, who have a heart??? – More rough, manly, lethal cops, who have a heart – that’s what!!!
In the first book, we met God and Day as the main couple, but within that book, we also met other couples as well, these characters will appear in all three (for now) books of the series.
Cashel Godfrey is a cop, a big man who inspires fear, but his attitude is just a shield that he has built over the years, because of a particularly dramatic event happened in his past.
The connection with the detective Leonidis Day is immediate, but it takes four years of only pure friendship, before they will discover that their feeling for each other are very different from just working buddies!
It’s nice to see how the love story develops and it was absolutely thrilling to read the scene in which God came out in front of all his colleagues during a drug raid.
There are a lot of sex scenes, that are well described. It is not a book to read during the summer with the heat if you do not want to set yourself on fire!
There is also a foursome, between God, Day and another couple, but I don’t want to tell you more as that they spoil the surprise. You can like these kind of scenes or not, but I found the one in the novel very sweet so, please don’t be put off.
In the other books the characters already met, will not be just an outline in the history, as they continue to interact, so if you fond of God and Day, do not worry, you will see them again. They will form a sort of extended family, which you will definitely love.
Of the background, there are the drug squad’s operations, though this is a police story, it’s not the “main feature”. The emphasis is on the relationships of our MCs, their feelings and their love.
The covers will have your mouths watering and the books will not disappoint the readers.

BLURB: Sergeant Corbin ‘Syn’ Sydney had dedicated his life to becoming the best detective. So when he heard there was an opening on the notorious Atlanta Narcotics Task Force, he jumped at the chance. But, what he wasn’t ready for was realizing just how lonely he’d made himself, when he observed the loving and dedicated relationship between the two men he served under: Lieutenant Cashel ‘God’ Godfrey and Lieutenant Leonidis Day.
Syn prepared himself to accept his lonely fate until he walked into a small pub and met the long-haired, tattooed bartender, Furious Barkley. Before Syn can even understand why, he’s overcome with feelings he barely recognizes: passion, yearning, craving. And if the dark, lustful gazes are anything to go by, Furious might be feeling the same things for him.
Just two thing needs to happen before Syn and Furi can give each other what’s been missing from their lives for so long… Syn needs to find the evidence that proves Furi’s innocence of murder, as well as protect him from a past that refuses to let go.
God, Day, Ronowski, and Johnson are still as entertaining as ever…
You’ll swoon over God’s massive take-charge attitude…
You’ll laugh hysterically at Day’s never-ending wit…
You’ll fall in love with Furious’ mysterious, sexy demeanor…
You’ll embrace Syn…
Book 1 (Nothing Special) was so very special that I had high hopes that this offering would be as good, if not better!
In this book, it’s Syn and Furi’s story. Yet again the author produced another hot storyline but I have to say, at times, I wanted to bang their heads together! I laughed and I cried, so many emotions running through this book including frustration at the two MCs, but yet again as in book 1, it was compulsive reading.
This time around, I noticed a slightly different vibe running through this book that differed from book 1, it was more over-exaggerated and because of this, I thought it lost some of its authenticity but definitely not in the sex department – that was very realistic!
This book is set a few years after God and Day’s story from book 1 and before you ask – yes! we do see and hear from them! However, let me assure you that if you haven’t read God and Day’s story, don’t worry, this can be read very successfully as a stand alone, the author does an excellent job of filling in the gaps, so there is no – what? what’s going on? situations. Everything flows nicely, which I thought was a great achievement from the author, as it was a complex storyline.
So what other factor(s) made me decide on 4* rather than the coveted 5* status? Well, apart from the “a bit over the top” situations, some of the geographical references were a bit dubious and there are still editing issues that should never have happened! Some of these were really basic mistakes and the editor should take full responsibility for this, not the author.
A.E. Via has incredible writing skills, she develops her storylines exceedingly well, mix in some Alpha men, smoking hot sex scenes and you have an excellent storyline. Really looking forward to reading book 3′ to see what she is going to deliver?

BLURB:Detectives Mark Ruxsberg and Chris Green are very good at their jobs. Being the enforcers for God and Day’s notorious Atlanta PD Narcotics Task Force causes the crazy duo to get into more trouble than they can often get out of. The pair never misses out on an opportunity to drive their Lieutenants crazy with their dangerous, reckless, and costly stunts, landing them in the hot seat in front God… often. Ruxs and Green love their jobs and they don’t mind the very demanding schedule that leaves them little time for socializing or dating. It was fine with them, they enjoyed hanging out with each other anyway. However, most of the men in their close circle of friends and colleagues are pairing off and settling down. God has Day, Ro has Johnson, and their Sergeant Syn has Furious. For the past several years, Ruxs has only sought out the advice and company of one person, his partner and best friend Green, and vice versa. Both of these alpha males are presumed straight, but neither can deny the heat that’s building in their once ‘just friends’ relationship.
Even though there are still some editing issues, I loved this book.
This is Rux and Green’s story. Like God and Day in book 1, they have been partners for some time. Green is bi-sexual and Rux is ????, but he knows that he wants Green! Their relationship starts slow, that long slow burn that I love so much, but when they get their act together? Boy-oh-boy do they!
There is a lot of drama, but with me being a bit-of-a-drama-queen on occasions, I got it! and for me, it was all good reading.
I was a bit disappointed that the author used run-of-the-mill names for these two characters, I rather liked the “different” names used in previous books, but that’s purely my own opinion.
A really nice touch was the author bringing back Curtis (we met him briefly in book 1) and the way all the boys looked after him, especially Rux and Green.
Even with the editing issues, It has to be 5* from me, because I enjoyed this book so much!

RELEASE DATE: June 26th, 2015
BLURB: Detective Austin Michaels didn’t think life could get any better after he was accepted into the most notorious narcotics task force on the East Coast, headed up by two of the baddest’ Lieutenants with the Atlanta Police Department – Cashel Godfrey and Leonidis Day.
Michaels knew he would fit right in as the team’s sniper, having received his fair share of commendations for marksmanship. He was just as badass as the rest of the twenty brothers that made up their team. But when Michaels lets their prime suspect get away from a huge bust with over a quarter of a million dollars in drugs, he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.
Left with no other options, God chooses to bring in outside help, calling on his long-time friend and bounty hunter, Judge Josephson.
Judge was considered one of the best trackers during his enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. After retiring, he used those skills to become one of the most sought out fugitive trackers in the country. When Judge gets a call from his old friend needing his help, he quickly tells God, yes.
Still embarrassed, and intent to prove himself, Michaels immediately volunteers to partner up with Judge to get their suspect back quickly and quietly. Neither man wanted or needed a partner. But, after Judge and Michaels get on the road, the hate/lust relationship they quickly develop between them will either make them heroes… Or get them killed.
AE Via is fast becoming one of my favourite authors – she sure knows how to write a good storyline and absolutely amazing characters – every time I read one of her books, they become my favourites, how do you choose? You can’t, I love them all!
This time around its Austin (aka Michael’s) and Judge’s turn. Michael’s has been accepted onto God’s team as their sniper, he is very dedicated but lonely and envies the happiness his other colleagues have found, this makes him withdrawn and angry.
A raid goes terribly wrong and he feels responsible even if it means working with the arrogant Bounty Hunter (and his dog) that has been bought in to help the team, he will make this right! Judge being a total ass at times means that Michael’s mundane life starts to pick up rather rapidly. Don’t get me wrong here, things certainly do not start well, but the sexual tension between them, makes exciting reading!
Judge realises that Michael’s is full of anger and what better way to exorcise his demons than by taking him into the bedroom and showing him who is Top Alpha!
The fight for dominance was worthy of 5* alone!
Having said that, there were times when I wanted to hit Judge HARD to knock some sense into him, yeah his background was what influenced him, but even so, a slap was definitely called for.
I love the way the author interconnects the previous characters, especially Day – he just cracks me up.
I would say that you could read this successfully as a stand alone, but the series is so good, I would urge you to start with book 1.
A wonderful addition to this series and the ending? Oh my!!! Can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next. A great read, no editing issues that I could see, so truly worthy of 5*
Our badass’s are back! and boy, have I missed them!
Detective Austin Michaels has achieved his dream of joining God and Day’s narcotics team. He is an excellent sniper and takes his job with a dedicated seriousness.
Unfortunately, during a mission, a drug dealer escapes with the drugs. Austin feels responsible. God calls in an old reinforcing friend, the Bounty Hunter, Judge Josephson. Austin wants in on the mission, so that he redeem himself.
At first the relationship between the two men is far from simple. Judge is tough, he doesn’t have relationships and he certainly doesn’t kiss on the mouth – too intimate. His only company is his huge dog. But both are aging and this life is starting to weigh him down. By going on this mission, with the young sniper, he knows his life is going to change.
What I like in A.E. Via’s books is that his characters are similar, equal and therefore the ensuing clashes are always very interesting.
There is action, tension and hot erotic scenes, but also a lot of attention his placed on feelings.
The behavior of Judge is perhaps excessive, but perhaps understandable looking at its past, the fact is, that he almost manages to destroy Austin.
It’s amazing how this author is able to almost get the reader out of breath during the most dramatic or suffered scenes. You feel all the pain that Austin feels.
Detective Michaels is an amazing character but totally unexpected, as I didn’t see this side of him in the previous books. I was very surprised, but it was a really good surprise. He is a very good guy, so strong but also so human.
And then the end … would you like me to talk about the end? Sorry, but you are going to have to read it yourself! Because at the end you’ll close the book with a huge smile on your face and the desire to have the next book already in your hands.
A great work from an author who, book after book, never disappoints.
**** We would like to thank the author for the privilege and opportunity of reviewing this ARC. Our reviews were an honest opinion of the book****
