Blurb: Having everything he needed and wanted in his life for the first time, Brian Lauder was perfectly happy. He had a career that he loved, a home, friends and a submissive that he adored. One he thought he’d held at a big enough distance from to protect his heart. That was all before Morgan stepped back into his house and his life. Morgan Cherik was everything a man could want. Beautiful, driven and eager to kneel for his Master, but he’d left without a word two years before to follow his dream, leaving Brian to pick up the pieces of a shattered heart. Now he was back and Brian was torn between wanting to feel that love he’d never been able to shake for Morgan, or punish him and let him go. Then there was Pez, the young college student who had helped him heal. How could Brian let him go? As Morgan begins to make amends, Brian knows that he cannot get over the other man who’d left his life for Brian’s happiness. Will the memory of Pez come between them, or bring them closer together?
This is a hard review to write, very hard. The reason being is that it’s not a book in the traditional sense, it’s a prelude – the Author has taken the unconventional route of showing us what is going to come very soon, in the near future. It tantalise’s and teases, as only Rain Carrington can do, you know she is going to deliver as she never fails her readers.
We know Brian, a Dom who had his heart shattered by a former sub. Morgan, his former sub and partner, left him with no explanations a few years earlier and is now back wanting a “second chance”. As I have already said, when Morgan left so unexpectedly, it shattered Brian’s heart, it hurt him to the very core of his soul because he was so deeply he love with Morgan. He poured all that hurt into any future relationships he had and now with his established sub, Pez. At first glance, it appears to be a typical Dom/sub relationship, but we know that it has a far deeper meaning.
For me, Pez was just WOW! He is so in love with Brian, that he only wants what he thinks is best for his Dom. Pez really believes that by stepping aside and letting Morgan get his “second chance” his Dom will be truly happy. He believes that Morgan will do anything to please his Dom and keep him close, however, Brian is a very complex Dom and it’s not that simple.
I can see already, from these few pages, that this series promises to be fantastic. Rain has now become one of my favourite authors. Why? Because she writes real stories, made of real people, with real feelings, real fears and real indecisions. Personally, I can’t wait to read more, my curiosity has my heart pounding in anticipation, I need to find out if Brian makes the right decision?
I’ve always believed that everyone is entitled to a second chance and I leave you with a question? Is it only Morgan that deserves a second chance?
