BLURB: Benji Rao, a hard-working welder from the Pacific Northwest, is recovering from a life-threatening and life-changing injury at a posh California resort. Trouble is, he’s miserable. His friends are worried, his panic attacks are getting worse, and the guy in the bungalow next to his is none other than Jamie Durham—the kind of neighbor who plays music loud, blows everybody’s breakers, and doesn’t care what people think of him.
But there’s more to Jamie than late nights, a huge inheritance, and a wild reputation. After endless bad press, Jamie longs for a chance to live a normal life, without the rumors and innuendo, and without his growing concern that he might be going crazy.
When Ben finds himself desperate for a date and Jamie is the only option, Jamie can’t believe his luck—a date with Ben would be as normal as it gets. But when the date doesn’t exactly go as planned, Ben and Jamie must overcome their personal demons to find their way to love.
A Fine Romance is my first book by this author and it will certainly not be the last. I enjoy the plotline, the characters are perfect for my liking, and the writing seems really natural, which is always a great sign for me. Writing that seems effortless is always a treat. This is the most difficult to achieve and the most enjoyable to read.
The plot is pretty simple. Our MCs meet at a wonderful resort close to California and form an intriguing from enemies to friends kinda relationship. Both Jamie and Ben are at a turning point in their lives in one way or another. They both had serious obstacles to overcome in their recent past, still carrying some heavy burden from those events, and trying to find some healing on the island. The connection they form is wonderfully built step by step. They find unexpected allies in each other and their understanding and acceptance of the other promises the forming of a real relationship.
Along with the building of their friendship with benefits there is a mystery/suspense line woven in the story, slowly taking over until the boiling point. You will be kept at the edge of your seat till the last page.
I really like Jamie and Ben’s characters. They are very real, very human, flawed, complex and likeable. You feel their inner struggles, as the story is told from both of their point of views in the third person. They both need each other to discover who they really are what they can become.
I also like the secondary characters. Ben’s friends are a riot. I think everyone’s wishing for friends like them in RL. The evil is truly frightening, and it really made my skin crawl…
This story will take you on an exciting adventure and will fill your heart with warmth and love, and give you a great reading experience. Enjoy!
****I would like to thank the Author for the opportunity and privilege of reading this ARC. My review was an honest opinion of the book****
