RELEASE DATE: 27th January 2016
BLURB: Cinder, a poor and beautiful young man who designs clothing, makeup, and hair for his stepmother and stepsisters, offers his clothing and slippers to a naked stranger in the woods, who turns out to be none other than Prince Charming. Follow Cinder and Prince Charming in this twist on the classic Cinderella tale as they discover their inner strengths and find their very own happily ever after.
Enjoy The Naked Prince and three other reimagined tales from Fairyland, each with a unique spin on stories we all know and love, including The Golden Rule, where eighteen-year-old Gideon Golden, after being thrown out of his home in Fairyland by his homophobic parents, breaks into the cottage of three burly men on Bear Mountain.
In Whatever Happened To…?, friction ensues between a celebrity with a growing appendage and a reporter who has a thing for giants.
And in Ice Cold, young Gaelen must save his love, Kieran, after a handsome but evil prince freezes Kieran’s heart and bewitches him into being the prince’s slave.
Sometimes you are lucky enough to find a author that ticks every box you want as a reader, today I’m that lucky reader.
Firstly, I want to say that I love the Dedication and Acknowledgement. Secondly, a warning – this (as the title suggests) is no child’s sitting on your lap time reading, maybe your partner’s **excellent idea** but definitely not a child!
Once upon a time, a writer/professor in a far off country, sat down and decided to X-rate the traditional fairytale for the unprejudiced reader. These sexy little delights he offers us are prefect to loose yourselves in Fairyland escapism.
The blatant name dropping would be tedious from any other author, but when the cast of cameo appearances include Mother Goose, Captain Hook, Little Bo Peep, Robin Hood and so many more, all I can say is “Welcome to Fairyland, where nothing is as it seems…..”
We are treated to four short, humorous, sexy tales. The 1st being the author’s take on Cinderella, with the pickling jar being used as the glass slippers. I loved the characters Maxwell and Mortimer, they stole the show as far as I’m concerned and it supplied one of the best lines I’ve read in a long time – “….as he slipped on palace protection” and we are not talking floors here!
The 2nd naughty tale is based on The Three Bears. Ohhhhhh Jack, you are such a naughty boy! and I did think that we were going to get a little ménage action with Gideon and the Bears, but it wasn’t to be, still enjoyable though and I have two favourite quotes from this one “I always suspected he had more down his throat then a frog” and “we got pretty far. Jack is very nimble and amazing quick” – I’m still chuckling over those two little masterpieces.
The 3rd is based on Pinocchio and my favourite of the collection. I loved how the author described him as a pathological liar, true but harsh and the one-liners in this story came thick and fast (no pun intended). My favourite being “Hey Jack, how about you pull my string and I climb your beanstalk” – classic!
The 4th and final one is based on Frozen. It was a cold tale and left me cold too – it lacked the humour that was so welcomed in the other stories, so this was my least favourite, but you may disagree and we will let the Wizard of Oz be the arbitrator on that one.
Overall, a great saucy, fun collection and highly recommended.
Five enchanted, celestial, fairy stars from me.
****I would like to thank the author for the opportunity and privilege of reviewing this ARC. My opinions of this book, were entirely my own.****
