FedericaHave to say that Melissa Collins has done a very good job in showing us that love can heal so many hurts, when given by the right person.

This is the second book in the series and it’s Beck and Dax’s story, whom we first met in book 1, Solid Ground.

Both men had/have deep emotional wounds, but are now in a solid relationship with each other, so much so, they are now ready to cement their love by getting married.  However, being the angsty storylines that this author loves to give us, things are never simple.  She shows us how difficult it is trying to escape the ghosts from your past, they say “you can run but can’t hide” and this book highlights that so well.

From Book 1 we learnt that Dax is a returning soldier with PTSD.  He not only lost his his entire unit but his lover as well, in an ambush.  Yes, he is slowly improving but still has a long way to go, his biggest worry though is letting Beck truly see how damaged he is……he thinks he may loose his love.

They say that good communication is the key to success, but does Dax tell Beck how is truly feels?  Of course not, he keeps it all pent up inside him and this causes problems.

They do manage to work it out.  Beck is always there to help Dax with his nightmares and anxieties, just as Dax is always there to help Beck, especially with his father, who abandoned him and his sister when they were children.

As I’ve already mentioned, this story is not very angsty, but with lots of misunderstandings.  At times I wanted to hug them and other times, beat them over the head with something very heavy!

It just goes to show how we can really complicate our lives all on our own, with no help from anyone else.

The story is written with dual points of view, this worked for me as we got to see and understand both the MCs.  In fact, most of the book is centred on them entirely, the secondary characters are exactly that, secondary and have no real impact.

Normally I would recommend reading a series in order, however, the author covered the storyline in Book 1 so well, this can be read very successfully as a stand alone.

This is a love story, showing how two men with issues, heal themselves through love.
