BLURB:

Matt Blanco is a legend on the Brooklyn Eagles, but time and injuries have taken their toll. With his career nearing its end, he’s almost made it to retirement without anyone learning his biggest secret: he’s gay in a profession not particularly known for its tolerance.

Iggy Rodriquez is the hot new rookie in town, landing a position in the starting lineup of the team of his dreams and playing alongside his idol, Matt Blanco. Iggy doesn’t think it can get any better, until an unexpected encounter in the locker room with Matt proves him wrong.

A relationship—and everything it could reveal—has never been in the cards for Matt, but Iggy has him rethinking his priorities. They fall hard for each other, struggling to make it through trades, endorsement deals, and the threat of retirement. Ultimately they will be faced with a choice: love or baseball?

12833361_10205887579250242_1339245014_nOut in the Field is a great, heartfelt and thought provoking feel-good story. I’m a big sports fan and really enjoy baseball stories. Kate McMurray gave me a new one I liked a lot.

Matt and Iggy are both professional baseball players. Both of them are gay, but as it happens in the professional world of sports they are both deeply closeted. When an unexpected encounter with some serious eye contact makes them realize they are not alone, they begin an exciting, adventurous and life-altering journey together. Their road is not easy even from the beginning, but they seem to take all the obstacles in stride. They fight for each other through everything, and their love for each other makes all their conflicts bearable.

This is certainly my kind of story with minimal angst. Don’t get me wrong there’s a lot going on but from the aspect of the relationship we get a great base, a strong emotional connection which never really gets questioned. The writing is solid with enough baseball to satisfy fans but not too much to bore those who are not into sports that much. The characters are well portrayed and the problem is very up to date. To come out or not to come out. The struggle is real and the solution is a true fantasy that hopefully someday comes true.

If you enjoy sport stories and hot athletes with great chemistry, a bit of complication, and lots of heartwarming moments this is a great read for you. Highly recommended!
